The Yanagisawa A-991 is one of the most respected professional altos from Yanagisawa's famous 99x series.
As the brass member of the series, the A-991 offers the precision, craftsmanship, and refined playing experience for which Yanagisawa is known, while retaining the distinctive character of a brass-bodied instrument. It followed the A-990 and was later joined by the A-992, whose bronze body gives it a distinctly different personality.
This difference in body material is one of the reasons the 99x series remains so interesting to players. The A-991 and A-992 share the same high level of Yanagisawa craftsmanship, but they offer different tonal characters and playing experiences. The A-991 is therefore not simply an earlier version of the A-992—it is a model with its own identity.
The A-991 belongs to an important period in Yanagisawa's history, when the 99x series represented the company's top-level professional alto saxophones. The series was eventually succeeded by the modern WO generation, with the WO10 carrying forward the brass professional alto tradition.
